RunSwitch, Harper Polling Releases Kentucky Politics and Issues Survey

Louisville, Kentucky (PRWEB) February 17, 2013

http://www.runswitchpr.com RunSwitch Public Relations, in conjunction with Harper Polling, conducted a survey on February 11-12 that tested several political and policy issues recently in the news and important to Kentucky voters. The survey asked questions of 850 likely Kentucky voters and had a margin of error of +/- 3.36%. The poll found Mitch McConnell leading Ashley Judd in a Senate matchup 49% to 40%.

My takeaways from the survey are that Senator McConnell is in solid-shape among Republicans and general election voters, and that Ashley Judd, for someone who has never run for office, already has a tough hole out of which to climb regarding her own image, said Scott Jennings, RunSwitch founding partner and former Deputy White House Political Director under President George W. Bush.

The survey found that 60% of Republican likely voters say McConnell deserves re-election, versus just 23% who say it is time to give someone else a chance. Inside the Republican voter sample, McConnell was in strong position among Seniors (70%), Very Conservative voters (65%), Somewhat Conservative voters (67%).

Theyve covered their flank against those most likely to turnout in a GOP primary. Its hard to imagine anyone popping up in a primary who could give McConnell trouble, particularly when you consider he has been endorsed by Senator Rand Paul, Jennings said.

Speaking of Kentuckys junior Senator and potential 2016 presidential candidate, he was viewed favorably by 46% of voters and unfavorably by 42%.

In this political climate if you are a congressional incumbent and your image isnt underwater you have reason to be happy, Jennings said.

In a general election matchup, any Democrat has a significant headwind on the generic ballot. Just 37% of voters prefer a generic Democrat to 47% who prefer a generic Republican.

This is the trend in Kentucky, where Republicans are gaining more and more ground in federal races, Jennings said, noting that the state lost one of its two Democrat members of Congress in November and that President Obama received just 38% of the vote in November.

In the hypothetical head-to-head test, Senator McConnell led Judd 49% to 40%. Judds image in the survey (35% favorable to 45% unfavorable) presents a tough problem for the actress.

This tells me that people know more about Ashley Judds politics than they would of your typical first timer, Jennings said. And in this case her politics are so closely aligned with President Obamas that it is causing her problems, Jennings said.

Inside the numbers, Judd actually ties McConnell among women (44% to 44%) but loses handily among men (54% to 36%). Additionally, 28% of Democrats said they plan to vote for McConnell.

This is problematic for Judd but not surprising since so many Democrats did not vote for Obama in the primary and general elections in 2012 and 2008, Jennings said. Simply put, being aligned with Obama in Kentucky is just a millstone around a candidates neck.

Also in the news recently was a much publicized web video promoted by the conservative Super PAC American Crossroads. The web video primarily attacked Judd for calling Tennessee home and for supporting President Obamas agenda.

We found that both attacks Crossroads leveled against Judd were effective, Jennings said, particularly the alignment with Obama and Judd calling herself a radical.

On the issue of not living in the state, 40% of voters said they would be less likely to vote for Judd because of it, including 28% who said much less likely. As for Judds description of herself as radical and her support for President Obama, 48% said they would be less likely to vote for her including 40% who said much less likely.

These message tests are important because they arent one candidate alleging something of another, but rather messages derived directly from actual video of a prospective candidate, Jennings said. Attacks are much more potent if they flow from a candidates own words.

The survey tested two federal issues that have been in the news lately the recent fiscal cliff deal and gun control.

A slight plurality of Kentuckians did not approve of the fiscal cliff vote, and an overwhelming majority of Kentuckians want Congress to focus on the mental health aspect of the gun debate versus simply banning semi-automatic rifles, Jennings said.

On the fiscal cliff, 48% said the deal was bad because it did not contain spending cuts, with Republicans much more likely to disapprove of the deal. On gun control, 69% said keeping guns out of the hands of people with mental illness would be more effective at stopping shootings like the Newtown, Connecticut incident versus 24% who said banning semi-automatic weapons would be more effective.

Jennings said RunSwitch and Harper will release more results tomorrow that deal with some Kentucky government issues that have been in the news lately.

We enjoy the chance to illuminate the political and public policy debates occurring in Kentucky and hope to continue to release polling on a semi-regular basis that sheds light on how issues are playing out in the public realm, Jennings said.

The survey was not conducted for or in conjunction with any candidate or political organization engaged in the Kentucky U.S. Senate race.

Dating Expert’s Carlos Xuma Talks Politics in New Report: Building a “Black Book” of Names

San Mateo, CA (PRWEB) November 01, 2012

Dating Expert Carlos Xuma, who refuses to take sides publicly, says that despite what the pundits said, Presidential hopeful Mitt Romney probably meant to say he had obtained entire binders full of names of women qualified for cabinet positions.

Needless to say, he didn’t. But regardless of that, and no matter what political side of the fence a guy might stand upon, one thing can be agreed on when it comes to qualified women in the dating game: having an entire binder that is filled with names of women qualified to date would be a good thing, says Dating Expert Carlos Xuma in his new report on how to attract women.

There is definitely something to be said about having an overabundance of qualified women in the dating arena, Xuma says in the report. However, most guys wont have a chance of meeting these qualified women unless they learn some key skills on how to attract women.

And, Xuma adds, that is one topic not up for debate.

Politics can be an ugly business, which is one reason working as a dating expert is so great dating issues are nonpartisan, Xuma says. In fact, talk about the presidential debates between Romney and President Barack Obama is a good way to strike up a conversation, as long as it doesnt get too political.

In the current social climate, Xumas nonpartisan attitude is likely also an example of the most suitable one to bring to the dating arena – a man will more easily attract women without putting opinions that may initially repel those who’d disagree on open display.

As Xuma says, Men should lay low on their outspoken political views unless they only want to date women who agree with them. In that case, a guy should blab away, but if politics arent that important, then a man might want to lay low about his views during the next few months.

What is increasingly clear, however, is that being able to attract a woman who meets a guys qualifications is very important in the dating world, says Xuma.

Thats where joking about the whole binder of women thing becomes topical, he says. But the bottom line is finding a large group of women who meet a guys individual qualifications and needs. For some men, a nonsmoker might be a crucial qualification, while another guy might say he wont date someone who doesnt go to church. In the dating world, each guy has his own unique set of qualifications for the women he dates. And guess what? So do women.

Carlos Xuma has been recognized for his work sharing tips on pick up artist techniques, alpha male behavior, how to find a woman, dating advice for guys, and how to get a girlfriend and spent more than a decade helping men attract women through his website, How To Attract Women. THE DARK SIDE OF US POLITICS: Depth Psychologists Analyze The U.S. Presidential Election

San Francisco, CA (PRWEB) October 30, 2012

The Asheville Jung Center, in conjunction with The C. G. Jung Institute of San Francisco and innerQuest Psychiatry held a 5 hour internet seminar last weekend entitled The “Citizens Dilemma in Divisive Times: Four Voices”. The live presentation was broadcast to a global audience and explored the unconscious trends that grip not only Barack Obama and Mitt Romney, but essentially all of U.S. Politics. The seminars offers 5 hours of Continuing Education Credit for therapists.

Tired of Pundits, PACs, and Politicians?

Surprised to see ABCs Nightline featuring a psychoanalysts profile of the candidates after the second debate?

How does anyone get their bearings from the Spirit of the Depths as well as the Spirit of the Times?

When Candidate Obama said so, its not surprising that they get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy to people who arent like them.. (speech April 10, 2008) he was speaking of the psychology that shapes the body politic.

Four Jungian presenters offer a radically different approach to deciphering the mystery of the psychologically charged times in this Presidential election.

The Huffington Posts recent interview by Pythia Peay with Dr. Murray Stein discussed some of these deeper forces shaping this presidential election. Excerpts from the interview illustrate how Jungian Psychology can reveal the code:

Dr. Murry Stein, president of the International School of Analytical Psychology, describes our two party political system as “whenever you have two of anything running against each other you’re going to have a splitting process: It’s a psychological phenomenon.

Dr. Stein goes on to say Differences are necessary in order to have growth and dynamic movement. Out of the dialectic between two polarities, a new possibility emerges. But if the “opposites,” or in this case the two parties, become completely unrelated, then the collective psyche is in danger of splitting: There’s no forward movement, there’s just mutual aggression, stalemate and stagnation. The system doesn’t evolve, it devolves, and you don’t want to see that happen.

The Citizens Dilemma in Divisive Times: Four Voices internet seminar is a deep exploration of the undercurrents and shaping forces at play in this highly charged historical moment.

The seminar is still available for viewing at http://ashevillejungcenter.org/webinars/w7/

Presenters:

Thomas Singer, MD, a psychiatrist/Jungian analyst will explores emotions and complexes in the collective psyche.

Richard Stein, MD, a psychiatrist/Jungian analyst, offers guidance for the introvert in times of political extremism.

Naomi Ruth Lowinsky, PhD an analyst and poet reminds us that poetry sings our cultural myths, mourns whats been lost, and praises the newborn day.

Richard Tarnas, PhD, author of The Passion of Western Mind and Cosmos and Psyche explores our times from an archetypal astrological perspective.

From Manners to Mans Best Friend Latest Issue of PS: Political Science & Politics Offers a Diverse Lineup of Research and Commentary

(PRWEB) July 03, 2012

Published by Cambridge University Press for the American Political Science Association, PS is the only quarterly professional news and commentary journal in the field of political science. The July edition offers fascinating articles on:

Rudeness in public life

In a six-article symposium, Political Civility, eight authors put incivility in politics in the spotlight, holding political leaders, campaign consultants, the media, and voters themselves to account for defaulting to a position of rudeness and entrenchment that undermines useful compromise. A common theme is that current levels of incivility are troubling and are preventing much-needed bipartisanship in the face of the nations problems. Although many established politicians regularly demonstrate an aptitude for civility, the medias focus on conflict has led to a substantial cohort of voters who are trained to respond to the rude, uncompromising face of politicians, pushing the dream of a politics of compromise even further away.

Unleashing the pet-factor

The way presidents use their pets to communicate with the nation and strengthen their position is examined in Unleashing Presidential Power: The Politics of Pets in the White House. Authors Forrest Maltzman, James Lebovic, Elizabeth Saunders, and Emma Furth demonstrate that pets can be both an important power center in the White House and a crucial part of a presidents strategy to engage the public. The authors outline the conditions under which presidents are most likely to trot out their four-legged friends and show that presidents give much careful thought to when to conduct a dog and pony show. In times of war or scandal, dogs are welcome public companions, but in periods of economic hardship they are best left in the kennel.

Obamas GLB backlash?

How much Obama owes to the gay, lesbian, and bisexual (GLB) vote and how much they may punish him for failing to pass employment laws to protect them come under discussion in President Obama and Gay Rights: The 2008 and 2012 Presidential Election. Mary McThomas and Robert Buchanan examine the past role and potential impact of GLB voters in the 2008 and 2012 presidential elections to assess fluctuations in support for the Democratic Party by GLB voters. They estimate how much the GLB vote counted toward Obama’s victory margin in battleground states and argue that, with the Obama Administration’s failure to pass the Employment Non-Discrimination Act, the president could be held accountable in the 2012 election for failing to protect GLB people from job discrimination.

Getting it Right in Left-dominated higher education

In Diversifying the Academy: How Conservative Academics Can Thrive in Liberal Academia, two Republican political scientists, Robert Maranto and Matthew Woessner, take on received wisdom that conservative academics face severe discrimination in a higher education world dominated by left leaning professors. Exploring emerging research and drawing on their own experiences, Maranto and Woessner find a more complex picture, arguing that conservative intellectuals can survive and even thrive (at least in political science). They go on to recommend steps that right leaning faculty can take to avoid needless political conflict and work happily in a profession largely dominated by the Left.

Women publish but still perish on the academic ladder

The well-known academic mantra, publish or perish holds true in political departments up and down the United States except if you are a woman ambitious to move from assistant to associate professor. This is the shocking finding of Vicki Hesli, Jae Mook Lee, and Sara McLaughlin Mitchell outlined in their article Predicting Rank Attainment in Political Science: What Else Besides Publications Affects Promotion? The trio present research that substantiates publish or perish but with the notable exception of the movement of women up a ranking system where they found that men have a significant advantage in gaining tenure. Analyzing the main factors that have a bearing on climbing the ladder in political departments, they uncovered no discernible link among women between the number of publications they have produced and the likelihood of their being an associate professor. Hearteningly, they also found that those women who survive the tenure process are as likely as men to move up the academic ladder to full professor.

It all makes for great reading, says PS Managing Editor, Barbara Walthall, and thats not all:

We also have some superb reports on an analysis of polls that show that 25% of Americans think President Obama is Muslim, an examination of a growing trend of class disparities in youth voting, and the findings of a 13-year study comparing online and traditional learning.

Its a really intriguing collection of timely articles, for specialist or nonspecialist, that are both interesting and exceptionally timely!

Political Left or Right – Can America Lean Toward Politics and Stand Up Straight for God?

Atlanta, GA (PRWEB) May 01, 2012

Americans Still Bring God into the voting booth. Politics 101 vs Christianity 101. Can they peacefully co-exist?

Deeper Calling Media (DCM) follows the news world as it relates to Christian issues both in the US and abroad. DCM regularly tracks polling and other news from the best and most respected news agencies, including liberal, conservative, Christian and secular sources.

How Christian Is America?

When it comes to the evening news the term Christian is batted about like the term Conservative, or Left-leaning Liberal. The specific term, Mormon however, can bring more Americans to the edge of their seats. Andrew Jackson takes on the Mormon Faith of Mitt Romney (Faith Works, 2012), and lands some heavy punches with respect to the LDS; asking questions like, How deeply involved is he in the LDS?, and How deeply effected is he by that involvement? and finally, How can the most public of all leaders in the world make decisions based upon one of the most secretive religions in the world?

It is an unusual juxtaposition for Americans to be looking at the more religious of 2 candidates with deeper scrutiny and suspicion. We consider ourselves a Christian nation, with numbers somewhere in the range of 70-80%, and part of the larger group called Christianity as the largest religious group in the world. As of the 21st century estimates are that about 2.2 billion people consider themselves Christians. How does that affect our decisions? How does that affect our judgment? How does that affect our voting?

Romney Recognized For His Religious Views Convictions

It would be inaccurate to suggest that presumptive Republican nominee Mitt Romney is solely defined by his religious beliefs, however, as a Mormon Romney challenges some of the traditional Christian values held by many Americans. Books like A Mormon In the White House? (Hugh Hewitt, Regency Publishing) already shine a bright light on the unique belief system of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (LDS). Due to the frequent references to his faith it could be expected that he would be polling well among the religious crowd, however, in order to win the election Romney will clearly have to find a way to attract less religious voters.

In a recent poll conducted by Gallup a large cross section of the American public was asked a series of questions regarding their religiousness, and how it would likely affect their voting in the upcoming Presidential election. As expected the results were very telling.

Where Do Americans Keep Their Faith

Gallup draws the obvious conclusion, At the moment, Obama does so well among less religious Americans that he leads Romney among all registered voters by a 49% to 42% margin. For Romney to be successful this November, it appears he will need to make further inroads into the ranks of Americans who are not highly religious. When you consider just how religious Mitt Romney is considered to be, that may be a difficult task.

The polling showed that Barack Obama is currently trailing Mitt Romney by 17 percentage points, 37% to 54%, among very religious voters. When it comes to those referring to themselves as moderately religious Obama leads by 14 points, 54% to 40%; while among those who consider themselves nonreligious the President leads by a significant 31 points, 61% to 30%.

Gallup writer Frank Newport concludes, It appears that in this year’s general election, religion will continue to be a major determinant of how Americans vote for president. Newport observes This reinforces a basic pattern in American voting behavior that has been evident for decades*

Gallup defines the levels of religious dedication as follows:
