Rothman Campaign Launches Facebook Timeline

Wood-Ridge, NJ (PRWEB) March 09, 2012

Steve Rothman is the first New Jersey Congressman to take advantage of Facebooks new Timeline feature for Pages. Steves Timeline, available by following this link, not only showcases recent campaign activity but also highlights major events in his career, like being the only member of the states Congressional Delegation to endorse Barack Obama for President in 2007 and the first to call for a full withdrawal of troops from Iraq in 2006.

Facebook Timeline offers intriguing possibilities for candidates to not only connect with voters on current positions and statements, but also to talk about important events in their past, which is exactly what were emphasizing here, said Philip Swibinski of Vision Media Political, Rothman campaign Digital Strategist.

Rothmans Timeline includes photos and vintage campaign materials from his first run for Congress in 1996 and his time as Mayor of Englewood from the 1980s. It also reinforces his stature as one of the leading progressive voices in the Democratic Party by showing his early endorsement of Obama and his political courage in holding ten town hall meetings and facing down hundreds of angry Tea Party supporters during the Summer of 2009.

In addition to this cutting-edge Facebook page, the Rothman campaign also utilizes Twitter and YouTube pages. The campaigns web site is http://www.rothmanfornewjersey.com, where visitors can donate to the campaign, sign up for email updates and learn more about Steve.

Thrill-Seeking Led to Secret Service Lapse in Judgment says Dr. Bonnie

(PRWEB) April 19, 2012

Secret Service members who had their clearances pulled after bringing prostitutes back to their hotel while on the job in Columbia (http://bit.ly/HZRSaB) were experiencing a biochemical craving for connection, says relationship and sex therapist Dr. Bonnie Eaker Weil. The organization says they let their boss, President Obama, down with the behavior of these men and it will likely cause additional outrage from the public in regards to taxpayer money being used to hire prostitutes.

“The Secret Service was seen as a badge of honor,” says Dr. Bonnie, “and this revelation has definitely sullied their reputation.” Behavior like this is not uncommon among people with high stress, high-powered jobs. Politicians are frequently getting caught with their pants down – sometimes literally – and it even extends to the Oval Office where not that long ago President Clinton was impeached for engaging in illicit sexual acts on the job.

Dr. Bonnie says this can all be attributed to the biochemical craving for connection. “When people are constantly dealing with a high-stress environment, they’re looking for ways to self-medicate. They’re not thinking clearly and they’re likely looking for experiences that will give them additional highs and make them feel even more powerful.” It’s self-reinforcing she says. The more powerful people feel, the more risks they take, which in turn makes them feel even more powerful.

It’s an addictive cycle, one often started by something like a high-stress or high-powered job. “But it then devolves into just wanting that high to feel good, or to escape,” explains Dr. Bonnie. It becomes a quest for forbidden fruit, to feed the addiction. People with jobs like Secret Service members don’t have to look hard for exciting experiences – they’re in foreign countries, spending time with powerful people, they’re likely to take risks says Dr. Bonnie – and in the right situation, they should!

“The Secret Service’s job often depends on them taking risks, so it can be hard to shut off that behavior and not let it permeate every aspect of their life,” Dr. Bonnie observes. But the very scrutiny and pressure that brings with it so much excitement, is the reason why people in a public service line of work have to be even more careful about their behavior. Says Dr. Bonnie, “by engaging in compromising behavior, they not only let down the President of the United States, they may have compromised his safety. And they will be subject to much harsher

penalties, both from the public and from their own system of review.”

San Diego Black Health Associates Join Forces with Black Barbershop Health Outreach Program for California Statewide Initiative

Los Angeles, CA, (PRWEB) April 12, 2012

The San Diego Black Health Associates (SDBHA) has just confirmed its partnership for the upcoming Black Barbershop Health Outreach Program taking place across the state of California on Saturday, May 12th, 2012.

From 11AM-4PM, volunteers will mobilize in San Diego cities along with metro cities like Los Angeles and San Francisco to facilitate screenings in over 75 black-owned barbershops. The program anticipates screening approximately 1,500 African American men for diabetes and high blood pressure during the multi-city event. Participants will also receive healthy lifestyle education and medical resources for local clinics and physicians.

San Diego Black Health Associates are working with the Black Barber Shop effort based in Los Angeles to ensure that African American men to act in their own best health interests. We want consumers to know that chronic health conditions like diabetes and obesity are preventable. We are thoroughly convinced that by making a few changes to our diet and exercising regularly, we can live longer, function in a pain free environment and be the model for our children that they need says Paul Simms, SDBHA President.

Founded by the Diabetic Amputation Prevention Foundation (DAP) in 2007, the tour has visited over 750 barbershops in 50 cities and 13 states and will continue its mission to screen 500,000 African American men by the end of 2014. This unique and innovative grassroots program works strategically with black-owned barbershops, because it represents such a cultural institution of familiarity and trust among African American malesmaking it the most effective avenue to disseminate health education information.

“The need to address health care disparities in African American men is paramount in light of the fact that they have the lowest life expectancy of any group in the U.S.,” says Dr. Bill J. Releford, D.P.M., founder of the DAP Foundation. “For decades, the black barbershop has served as a centralized gathering place where African American men feel comfortable discussing the most important issues that impact their lives: politics, social trends, family and finances. Now, we are introducing an important discussion of health and the critical need for health awareness.”

Compared to the general public, it is African American males who have a higher risk of diabetes and other cardiovascular conditions, such as high blood pressure and high cholesterol. The American Diabetes Association estimates that 3.7 million (14.7 percent) African Americans ages 20 years or older have diabetes, while statistics show that forty percent (40 percent) of African American men die prematurely from cardiovascular disease as compared to twenty-one percent (21 percent) of white men.

Dr. Bill Releford organized the initiative to empower African American men to better understand cardiovascular diseases. As he travels across the country to spread awareness, he welcomes corporations, small businesses and county facilities to get involved in the mission.
