Obama and Romney Both get ‘Bashed’ by Voters yielding iPhones

Orlando. FL (PRWEB) October 26, 2012

Clever Fox Software is pleased to announce the immediate availability of it’s new mobile application Bash the Vote. Bash the Vote operates as a live national poll as users around the country cast their votes with ‘bashes’ to determine the overall election result. The concept is very straightforward and similar in style to a fast paced carnival game. The player must whack the moving head of the candidate they don’t like with a mallet while avoiding their presidential pick. There are 30 seconds on the clock to vote with the hammer as many times as possible while the White House hopefuls duck for cover. At the end of the game all of the players bashed votes are added to the ‘National Bash Tally’ which tracks the running totals from around the country.

“We were really surprised to suddenly see our little poll getting so much user attention.” said Clever Fox developer A J OToole. “That’s what we love about developing for mobile – you can come up with an interesting little social experiment, put it out there and just see what happens.”

“For the expert bashers we added a ‘Bonus Bash’ feature to unlock extra time.” said developer Phil Bias. “As with anything political we have some very passionate players on both sides of the fence. One individual player has already bashed President Obama close to 50,000 times and logged countless hours of play just to support his candidate”. An Apple Game Center leader board displays high scores and allows players to compete online. The ‘National Bash Tally’ is already well past 1 million bashed votes with just days left until election day.

As well as being independent developers the Clever Fox team are also independent voters. The main menu displays a countdown to election day, and a large Remember to Vote button links out to an information page on how to register and vote in the upcoming presidential election. The team says that beneath the bashes and bruises the app carries a simple reminder. “‘Bash the Vote’ demonstrates true power in numbers as each citizen whacks away for their candidate. Similarly we feel that everyone should make a strong effort to vote for the next President on November 6th and participate in the process wherever possible.”

A Twitter feed @bashthevote allows players to continue to track the poll and tweet comments after their bashed votes have been submitted. The ‘National Bash Tally’ will stop counting bashes at midnight on election night. After the final bash is tallied and the ‘Bash the Vote’ winner is officially announced on Twitter, Clever Fox plans to make their own version of a campaign donation. A ‘Bash the Vote’ win for Obama will mean a charitable contribution to his wife Michelle’s childhood obesity initiative Let’s Move. A win for Romney will see the donation go towards an equally good cause The National Multiple Sclerosis Society of which his wife Ann Romney is an active board member.

‘Bash the Vote’ is available as a free download on both Apple iOS and Android devices. Clever Fox Software is an independent software development studio based in Orlando, Florida. The company specializes in crafting innovative games and apps for mobile devices.

McGeough Lamacchia Realty Outlines What Is Missing from Romney and Obama Housing Plans

Waltham, MA (PRWEB) October 09, 2012

John McGeough and Anthony Lamacchia, co-brokers and owners of McGeough Lamacchia Realty, say that while both plans from the candidates focus mainly on helping distressed homeowners, they need to focus more on preventing people from becoming distressed homeowners and supporting the larger portion of homeowners who are the people who can afford their homes.

The Romney Housing Plan calls for selling off vacant homes owned by the government, helping troubled homeowners avoid foreclosure by making it easier to do short sales and deeds-in-lieu of foreclosure, and reforming the government-owned sponsored enterprises Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. Romneys housing plan also calls for replacing the Dodd-Frank Act with simpler, more sensible regulation.

The Obama Housing Plan proposes to invest $ 15 billion into rehabilitating and refurbishing hundreds of thousands of vacant and foreclosed homes and businesses and to transition foreclosed property into rental housing. Obamas plan also calls for Broad Based Refinancing for borrowers who are current on their payments to refinance their homes and will expand the Home Affordable Mortgage Program (HAMP) eligibility to reduce additional foreclosures.

McGeough Lamacchia Realty outlines five main issues which are not addressed in these housing plans:

The first issue outlined is to extend the Mortgage Relief Act which is set to expire at the end of the year. This Act relieves distressed homeowners from having to pay federal taxes on the amount of debt that was forgiven in a refinance or loan modification, short sale, or foreclosure.

In Obamas budget proposal for 2013, he did call for an extension of this Act through January 1, 2015, but the clock is ticking, says Anthony Lamacchia. This needs to be mentioned as part of an overall housing plan that protects struggling homeowners facing foreclosure.

The second issue is to preserve the Mortgage Interest Deduction which has been a part of the federal tax code for almost a hundred years.

The Mortgage Interest Deduction has been around since 1913 and it is a wonderful incentive for owning a home. Eliminating or decreasing this incentive at a time like this would be very poor policy on behalf of our government, says John McGeough.

McGeough Lamacchia Realty says a sound Housing Plan from either candidate should include protecting the Mortgage Interest Deduction.

McGeough Lamacchia Realty says extending the so-called Bush Tax Cuts (also known as the Tax Relief, Unemployment Insurance Reauthorization, and Job Creation Act of 2010), is the third item that needs to be part of the conversation for improving the housing market. Several provisions of this law went into effect including one that reduced the tax rate on capital gains to a maximum of 15%.

For people who own investment property, the capital gains tax will increase if they are not extended beyond the end of this year. Right now for homeowners in the lowest two income tax brackets of 10 or 15 percent, the long-term gains are tax free. But if the tax cuts expire, the 10 percent bracket will collapse into the 15 percent bracket, and taxes for this bracket will go from 0 to 10 percent. For property owners in the income brackets above 15 percent, the long term capital gains tax will increase to 20 percent.

The fourth item that is not being discussed is how the Payroll Tax Cut hurts homeowners. In December of last year, President Obama signed the Payroll Tax Cut extension, but homeowners are paying Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac to pay to Treasury for the tax credit. The fees Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac charge to insure home mortgages increased to from 0.3 percent to 0.4 percent. For a homeowner with a $ 200,000 mortgage, that means their monthly mortgage payment would be about $ 17 higher or an additional $ 6,000 over the course of a 30-year loan.

Homeowners with bigger mortgages pay more. McGeough Lamacchia Realty says money should not be taken out of peoples mortgages to pay for other government debts like the payroll tax law.

And finally, McGeough Lamacchia Realty says the housing plans should include keeping Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac rather than reform or replace them.

After the housing bubble burst, Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac were placed into conservatorships in September 2008 and have since received $ 188 billion in taxpayer support. McGeough Lamacchia cites they have already started to pay back the debt and are making money again. In August, Fannie Mae reported a net income of $ 5.1 Billion for the Second Quarter, and Freddie Mac reported a net income of $ 3 billion for the same time period. Fannie and Freddie have repaid about $ 46 billion to the Treasury in dividends and have not had to draw on Treasury funds for the second quarter of 2012.

Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac allow banks to offer home loans to low- and middle-income buyers who otherwise might not have been able to get a mortgage. McGeough Lamacchia Realty says without them, mortgages would be more expensive for everyone, which is why they should be kept.

McGeough Lamacchia Realty says both candidates need to include these five points in their housing plans.

Dodge Poetry Festival Announces Complete Schedule and Debut of 2012 Festival Smartphone App for October 11-14 Event

Newark, NJ (PRWEB) August 17, 2012

The Geraldine R. Dodge Foundation has announced the complete program of more than 100 poetry events and a full roster of poets who will perform in the 14th biennial Geraldine R. Dodge Poetry Festival, presented in partnership with the New Jersey Performing Arts Center and the City of Newark, NJ from October 11 through 14, 2012. Today also marks the debut of the Dodge Poetry app, where users will be able, for the first time, to plan their Festival schedule on their smart phones and other handheld devices. The Dodge Poetry Festival is the largest poetry event in North America. Called Wordstock by The New York Times, audience members have the opportunity to hear performances from and interact with dozens of the worlds foremost poets with an extraordinarily wide range of backgrounds and styles. Single day passes to the Festival are now on sale at http://www.njpac.org and at the NJPAC box office, as are weekend and four-day passes.

Poets returning to the Festival include former U.S. Poet Laureate Philip Levine (2011-12) and the newly appointed U.S. Poet Laureate Natasha Trethewey (2012- ), Pulitzer Prize-winner C. K. Williams, poet-musician Kurtis Lamkin, National Book Award winners Terrance Hayes and Thomas Lux, and T.S. Eliot Prize-winner Jane Hirshfield. Among the poets making their Dodge Poetry Festival debuts this year are: Pulitzer Prize finalist Henri Cole, Chilean National Literature Prize winner Raul Zurita, Irelands leading woman poet Eavan Boland, California Poet Laureate Juan Felipe Herrera, National Book Award winner Nikky Finney, Fanny Howe, and Gregory Orr. Returning to the Festival for the second consecutive year are Newark resident and founder of the Black Arts Movement Amiri Baraka and National Book Award finalist Dorianne Laux. The Festival will also present a world premiere performance of selections from four-time National Grand Slam Champion Patricia Smiths book-length sequence Blood Dazzler, about Hurricane Katrina, set to Wynton Marsalis At the Octoroon Balls string quartet and performed by members of the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra.

A highlight of the Festival will be a Poetry Sampler taking place on Thursday evening, October 11, offering audiences the opportunity to hear 25 acclaimed poets including Natasha Trethewey, Nikky Finney, Terrance Hayes, and others, giving short, back-to-back readings over two-and-a-half hours, an event unparalleled at any other poetry gathering.

In addition to readings and performances, all Festival poets will participate in discussions and other multi-poet events. Of particular note are several sessions entitled Reading and Conversation, in which groups of poets will read their work and engage in a question and answer period with the audience. Other discussion topics include Poetry and Pride, which explores the impact of gay poets on contemporary poetry; A Life Together, featuring two pairs of married poets; and Lost and Found in Translation, with two Latin American poets and their translators discussing the challenge of preserving the original intent and feeling when a poem is translated into a different language.

Another Festival highlight will be a session with Newark native Amiri Baraka, who, in addition to participating in multiple events throughout the Festival, will participate in a discussion about the 45th anniversary of the Newark uprising with historian and Rutgers University Board of Governors Distinguished Service Professor Clement Price, who serves on President Obamas Advisory Council on Historic Preservation.

Anchored by events at NJPAC, the Festival will transform downtown Newark into a Poetry Village, with many of the performances and readings occurring at alternate venues and cultural destinations in Newark, all within easy walking distance of the Center including Aljira Center for Contemporary Art, First Peddie Baptist Memorial Church, the New Jersey Historical Society, the Newark Museum, North Star Academy, and Trinity & St. Philips Cathedral. At times during the Festival, ten or more separate stages will offer events simultaneously for audiences from 100 to 2,000 people.

Every Dodge Poetry Festival, since the first in 1986, has offered the opportunity to see and hear some of the icons of the age, poets whove had a major influence on those who followed them, like Philip Levine, C. K. Williams, and Eavan Boland, said Martin Farawell, Festival Director. But what has always made the Festival so exciting is the opportunity to discover new voices, to discover more of the American poetries, as the late Adrienne Rich put it, that are out there. That feeling, that the poetry community really is national and international, that it cuts across all boundaries and welcomes everyone from every background, from the expert to the person who hasnt even discovered how powerfully poetry can speak to them, is whats made the Festival such a memorable experience. And the Dodge Poetry staff has worked very hard to put together a line up for the 2012 Festival that will keep that tradition vibrant and alive.

We’re proud to welcome many of the worlds greatest poets and their fans to the New Jersey Performing Arts Center this October, said John Schreiber, President and CEO, NJPAC. The Dodge Poetry Festival draws a diverse and enthusiastic audience to Newark, and we’re excited to greet the thousands of visitors who will share in this extraordinary celebration.

The response to the 2010 Festival in Newark was outstanding, said Christopher Daggett, President and CEO of the Geraldine R. Dodge Foundation. Visitors who came to Newark for the first time discovered its beautiful performance spaces and churches, and the art galleries, museums, and restaurants. And the people of Newark couldnt have been more welcoming. We are grateful to them, and proud to have the City of Newark and the New Jersey Performing Arts Center as our partners. We are excited about the 2012 Festival, excited that Dodges decades-long investment in poetry has allowed us to play a small part in the renaissance of a great American city. We look forward to a long run in our new home.

Newark has been home to and the inspiration for countless great artists, and following the success of the 2010 Festival, were very happy to be welcoming the Dodge Poetry Festival back to our city and the world-class New Jersey Performing Arts Center. The Dodge Poetry Festival is the largest poetry festival in North America and visitors from across the globe will have the opportunity to hear great works of poetry in some of Newarks most important cultural and historical locations. This Festival will continue to manifest Newarks status as a destination for entertainment and the arts, said Newarks Mayor, Cory A. Booker.

Known for its tremendous ethnic and cultural diversity, downtown Newark is located three miles from Newark Liberty International Airport, one of the largest international airports in the United States. Downtown Newark is easily accessible by public transportation via Amtrak, New Jersey Transit (NJT), and PATH trains, and is located at the center of the New York metropolitan area. This year, as a key component of the Dodge Foundations commitment to a healthier environment, the Festival will partner with NJT to make public transportation more affordable for Festival-goers. NJT will offer $ 10 ticket vouchers for Festival participants for a round-trip to and from any NJT rail station to Newark Penn Station. The $ 10 NJT tickets are purchased through NJPAC when purchasing Festival tickets online, over the phone or at the box office. The Festival ticket can be shown to the conductor in place of a regular ticket and can be used to ride the Light Rail from Newark Penn Station to NJPAC, offering door-to- door service for Festival goers.

Should Obama Go On FOX? (Dan Abrams, MSNBC, and DJK!)

foxattacks.com April 25, 2008 Yes, that’s right — that’s really me, DJK (aka Jonathan Kim) on MSNBC’s Verdict with Dan Abrams! It’s my first television appearance, and I have to tell you that it was a very strange experience. But more on that later. The topic of discussion was whether it was a good idea for Barack Obama to give in to Chris Wallace’s Obama clock and appear on FOX News Sunday on April 27. As you can see, I think I was probably the most adamant about the fact that Obama really has little to gain from “addressing the FOX audience” since FOX will dissect every possible aspect of the interview to extract every possible microgram of negativity conceivable. And FOX is perfectly willing to lie to do it. And Abrams pointed out, Obama is legitimizing FOX as a news source, which is exactly what allowed FOX to gain the influence it has — by maintaining the appearance of a news network when they are really a republican propaganda machine. The best way for Obama to turn his bad decision into a positive is if he goes after FOX and shows democrats and the world that he is, in fact, “in touch” with what democrats and most of the world knows — that FOX is a republican propaganda machine. He’ll earn more respect of his base and show that he understands the role that FOX plays in legitimizing republican talking points. He’ll show that he knows how the system works. And if there’s any fear that he might lose votes by alienating FOX voters, remember this — in the 2004 election
